ALF fuels young African women’s advocacy for policy change

February 28, 2025

As part of its regional advocacy effort to strengthen the capacity of Young Women in Africa, the Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) was actively involved in the capacity building of over 100 young girls from across the continent during the 13th GIMAC Young Women Network Advocacy awareness-raising session held in February 2025. The Foundation’s Executive Director, Dr. Olumide Ajayi, led a session on “From Advocacy to Action” to empower young women to drive meaningful policy change at the community level. The Director leveraged the platform to encourage the young women to apply as members of the African Youth Network of UCDW Advocate (AYNUA).

As a member of the Steering Committee of the GIMAC Network, the Foundation also made a significant contribution to the outcome of the 41st GIMAC consultative meeting held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 6th to 8th. The meeting included two representatives from the ALF who co-led the deliberations with other GIMAC partners during the breakout session on governance and leadership issues regarding reparative justice for women.

As the regional advocacy partner of OXFAM in Africa, the ALF contributed significantly to the drafting of the AU CEVAWG, one such effort was leveraging this consultative meeting to organize a panel session comprising stakeholders from different backgrounds on the effective participation of CSOs in the implementation of the AU Convention on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (CEVAWG).
