ALF spearheads initiatives to advance gender equality across Africa
The Africa Leadership Foundation (ALF) has intensified its efforts over the past three months to champion the recognition, reduction, and redistribution of unpaid care and domestic work (UCDW), making significant strides in promoting gender justice and empowering women and girls across the continent. Through a series of strategic initiatives, ALF continues to advocate for a more equitable society.
In celebration of International Women’s Month, ALF hosted a virtual dialogue that convened approximately 90 gender equality enthusiasts from 22 countries. The discussion underscored that achieving gender justice necessitates an honest reckoning with historical injustices and the implementation of meaningful reparations to address their enduring consequences. The dialogue further highlighted the critical importance of collective action in shaping a future where African women and girls can fully exercise their rights and opportunities.
Lending its influential voice to the gender equality movement in Africa, Dr. Olumide Ajayi, ALF’s Executive Director, actively participated in a regional dialogue focused on advancing action on the African Union Convention on Eliminating Violence Against Women and Girls (CEVAWG). Organized by the GIMAC Young Women Network (GYWN), this conversation drew the attention of relevant stakeholders to the urgent need to address rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and, crucially, to engage men and boys in promoting positive masculinity.
Furthermore, ALF hosted a comprehensive three-part Leadership Development workshop series tailored for AYNUA members. This training aimed to equip youth advocates with essential knowledge and skills to promote gender justice and advocate for WE-Care: Advancing Gender Equality: ALF’s Recent Initiatives. By empowering these young leaders, ALF strengthens their capacity to influence policy decisions and advance gender equality within their communities.
Through these concerted efforts, ALF remains committed to fostering a more just and equitable society for all, providing essential training and capacity-building opportunities to its network members to drive meaningful change.
