County government commits to making Kitui a caring county

April 18, 2024

The Kitui County Government has made tremendous strides toward advancing the care infrastructure agenda. Kitui county care champions met with the Kitui county policymakers from the ministries of Gender, Agriculture, Education, Water, Environment, and Finance on 26 March 2024 at ATC Kitui to review the status of their care asks. The county government, through agricultural extension officers, has continued to build the capacity of women farmers on climate smart agriculture, which has significantly enhanced food and nutrition security, reducing the time women spend in search of food and decreasing malnutrition cases among children.

In addition to constructing sand dams and boreholes to improve water access for caregivers, the government has significantly enhanced infrastructure in the area by paving and graveling most of the main and feeder roads, as reported by the caregivers themselves.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has made substantial investments in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) by constructing classrooms and hiring permanent, pensionable staff, with women constituting 95% of the workforce. The Ministry of Health has substantially enhanced healthcare services by staffing health centers and dispensaries with qualified personnel, prioritizing antenatal and postnatal care.
