PMU meets to reflect on progress, develop a strategic pathway for WE-Care’s future

On 3–7 February 2025, the WE-Care Program Management Unit (PMU) met in Kenya to take a step back, re-evaluate their existing duties and goals, assess overall progress, and brainstorm on how to enhance the delivery of the program. The WE-Care PMU consists of five individuals who are responsible for managing the overall delivery and smooth implementation of the program through stakeholder engagement, financial accountability, communications, project design, and decision-making. Apart from ensuring high-quality planning, the WE-Care PMU also ensures the timely delivery of the program’s objectives and manages key risks and issues. It also maintains relationships with other Oxfam multi-country programs, country teams, and other Oxfam affiliates and teams.
In this PMU face-to-face meeting, country teams were invited to participate and bring to surface critical issues that require PMU support. This included tackling issues regarding finance and risk matrix, which, among others, highlighted a budget development process that requires more inclusion from program and finance staff, a need for proper handover activities following staff turnover, a plan for mitigating underspending risks and delays in reporting, and clear agreements regarding donor requirement compliance.

The PMU meeting was also attended by the Oxfam in Africa Gender Justice Lead, Transformative Education Policy and Program Lead, Senior Gender Advisor for Together Against Poverty Project, and Advisor for Gender Justice Campaigns and Advocacy. This enabled the PMU to strategically identify and develop further connections and partnerships across Oxfam in Africa through identifying areas of collaboration.
