WE-Care partners join CSW69, reflect on progress made
In March 2025, WE-Care partners from Uganda and Zimbabwe participated in CSW69 where they were panelists for different side events. Bekezela and Oxfam in Zimbabwe participated in the CSW 69th Session side event in collaboration with the Governments of Kenya, Senegal, Zimbabwe, Akina Mama wa Afrika, and AWAK on the intersection of policymaking, women’s political leadership, and care work.

Meanwhile, the event hosted by WE-Care partner UWONET focused on the topic: UNSCR 1325 in the Context of Beijing+30: Reflections on the Progress and Practice in Chad and Uganda. The robust exchange of ideas during the event, coupled with the commitment of government leaders, civil society actors, and development partners generated momentum for addressing crucial challenges, such as gender-based violence and economic inequities, with a specific focus on UCDW. By amplifying the role of women’s leadership, strengthening partnerships, and reaffirming the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action’s relevance, the event offered not only reflections on progress but also a forward-looking roadmap for safeguarding women’s rights in Uganda’s evolving political landscape.
The Oxfam Africa Director provided remarks during both sessions, including the one hosted by the government of Senegal. The Senegal event brought together panellists who presented insights from a recent survey on time use in Senegal, while also sharing successful advocacy strategies from Zimbabwe and community-based approaches from Kenya. This event concluded with the Ministry of Family and Solidarity unanimously validating a three-year roadmap aimed at recognizing care work in Senegal.
