YAK hosts online space to envision the future of the care economy
In celebration of the International Day of Care and Support, Youth Alive! Kenya hosted an inspiring X Space on 28 October 2024 to honor achievements, reflect on the journey of care advocacy, and envision the future of the care economy, attracting 194 live listeners. Panelists, including advocates and care experts, discussed key milestones, such as increased policy recognition and societal acknowledgment of care work, as well as ongoing challenges. Emphasizing the role of citizen engagement, they encouraged communities to support policies that recognize care as essential labor, deserving of protection and equitable treatment.
Panelists likewise shared insights on their organizations’ contributions to care development, ranging from policy advocacy to capacity strengthening for care workers. The discussions underscored the vital roles that men, youth, and women can play in promoting equitable care systems with examples of best practices that could be amplified to foster greater inclusion, fairness, and sustainability in care development. The online space was both a celebration of progress and a call to action, inspiring participants to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive care economy.
